Another researcher, Linfield, said that the new THz laser can also be used by customs to detect illegal drugs and can check whether the manufactured and stored drugs are qualified. This metamaterial can also be used as a demonstration tool, and also has some magical potential features, such as the development of stealth cloaks, negative refraction, and high-resolution images.

Another important significance of the research is the photoconductivity of this metamaterial. The extremely strong terahertz light generated by the device is directed to the laser crystal plane with a straight beam. This super-strong limited guiding effect can also be applied to sensors and terahertz optical paths.
