The development of the Signature Printing Company was very rapid. It was founded in October 1991. Initially there were only two Docu Techs, a 5,000-square-foot factory building, and a few pieces of old furniture. By 1998, the annual sales volume had reached 2.74 million US dollars. For the first time, QP top 100 companies ranked on the list, 77 were fame and fortune. In 1999, they again ranked 57th, with sales of more than 3.8 million US dollars.
These achievements are the result of providing multiple services. The manuals printed with Docu-Tech are still the main business, in addition to the wireless glue binding, plastic spiral binding and saddle stitch binding business. Many of these activities come from industry associations. In addition, software companies rely on Signature's production equipment manuals and training manuals.
Color was another tool used by the printing factory over the years, beginning with the Canon 200, upgrading to the Canon 700, and later installing the Ricoh Majestik copier and the Docu Color 40. So far, the color business of the factory has developed rapidly, so it has purchased a 4-color Heidelberg GTO.
Due to the large amount of work for subsequent processing, the manufacturer believes that it is necessary to invest in high-end binding equipment, but at the same time, the factory does not limit the equipment to its own business. They saw that there were many small printing companies that did not have enough binding capacity, so they took their jobs so that their equipment would not be idle.
In addition, the factory has also purchased automated lamination and die-cutting equipment, which is a business for itself and other colleagues.
The plant has a special interest in the flexibility of offline processes and purchased a Duplo collator with a saddle stitcher and a book cutter. With this stand-alone device, the factory can work on any machine and then go offline and saddle stitch.
Due to the rapid development of the bindery business, we have purchased a new type of wireless binding equipment that can increase the output and can bind 1,000 volumes per hour.
Digital technology continues to stimulate the development of the industry. Many web printers who manage long lived books send sample books to Signature, because publishers typically have 100-200 copies of the book before publishing a novel, which may be a way to test market conditions. .
In early 1999, a company called Technographics was merged by another company. His sales representatives switched to the Signature factory. At the same time, they also brought in a large number of customers, which greatly increased the company's wireless glue book business.
The binding work is more labor-intensive, but staff training is also easier. The Signature printing plant employs mostly family members. Whenever there is a vacancy, people will introduce their relatives to do it. Family-style homework and community spirit built a reliable workforce for the plant. The 42 employees were divided into 3 classes. Flexible time to work is one of the benefits that employees value. They can set their own working hours - they can come later in the morning, and then continue until 6:00 pm, or until 3 o'clock in the morning to go to 1 pm - very flexible.
The condition of the factory is better every year. In 1999, it received an average of 400 monthly jobs. It is expected that it will reach 450 to 500 pieces per month in 2000, and annual sales will exceed the 4 million US dollars mark.
