Beijing, China, October 12: Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology for ultra-high frequency (UHF) applications is always difficult to match with metal products or metal environments, like the relationship between oil and water, which makes it possible to manage RFID technology. According to the current agreement between TI and Sontec, TI will provide 10 million radio frequency identification (RFID) Gen 2 chips to Sontec. The first shipments have been delivered and the rest will be delivered before the first half of 2007. Sontec's new RFID transponder achieves higher read range performance, which in turn helps suppliers optimize a variety of consumer product supply chains, including home appliances, electronics, and products with high metal content. Sontec's target customers for this primary product are limited to Asian home appliance and electronic equipment manufacturers, but its final product will be sold to the global retail market including Japan and the United States.

Generally speaking, radio waves emitted by RFID tags are reflected by metal at the UHF frequency band, and the eddy current effect generated by metal products also causes attenuation of the radio waves, which reduces the reading distance performance.
