Sherwood Technology has developed a new edible Datalase ink that offers innovative solutions for laser recognition of foods such as fresh products and hard-shelled confections.

The company pointed out that this patented additive product can form a safe, high-intensity contrast image on the surface of edible products. This process utilizes unique chemical technologies that react with low-energy laser beams and create positive images by changing colors. This concept also caters to the current demand for food traceability.

DataLase inks are used in a wide range of applications. Products such as poultry eggs and fruits can be labeled with a low energy CO2 laser. The additive can be applied to the surface of the food by spraying or drying the coating, etc., and then marked with a low-energy carbon dioxide laser. It is usually in the form of a dry powder or a water-soluble solution.
