According to Philadelphia News, The University City Science Center announced that its R&D of new green materials will launch a series of bio-based plastic materials using unique green production technology through the research center incubator. This statement marks the launch of the "green" technology program at the research center and the new "green business incubator" with Green Village Village (GVP). The green material R&D technology will directly use plant protein to produce solid-state, bio-based plastic products. Its unique water-based production process will eliminate the health risks of production workers and ease the company's many regulatory burdens when dealing with the petroleum-based plastics industry. Recently, R&D of green materials won the Small Business Innovation Research Award (SBIR) from the National Science Foundation (NSF). In addition, certain funding was obtained from Ben Franklin's technology partners, the Technology Commercialization Group, and the Pennsylvania Commonwealth as a small innovative joint stock. Funding funds will be used to characterize the performance of plant protein based plastics, such as mechanical strength and molecular structure, and demonstrate its feasibility in various applications. The operation and business of green material R&D will be assisted by the research center and Green Philadelphia Village (a regional group company and a non-profit company registered in Pennsylvania). GVP is composed of business leaders and community activists who are committed to becoming the forerunners of overall urban planning and continue to develop sustainable urban streets.
