Experts discuss textile archaeology in Beijing

Recently, the Textile Archaeology Symposium hosted by the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences was held in Beijing. More than 40 experts and scholars from more than 10 units including the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, the National Museum of China, and the Palace Museum attended the conference.

At the meeting, experts and scholars explained and discussed the development of textile archaeological work and the excavation and restoration of textile cultural relics. Luo Yuyin of Yangzhou University summarized the three stages of the development of China's textile archaeological work since the 1960s. According to reports, in the 1960s, Mr. Shen Congwen began to do research and finishing work on ancient Chinese costumes; in the 1970s, the scientific protection excavation work led by Mr. Wang (Yu Yu) with low interference and high optimization; After the 1980s, Wang Yarong, the leader of textile archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, opened the first place in China's experimental textile archaeology. Since then, the Chinese textile archaeological work has been improved in terms of methods and methods.

Wang Wei, member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and chairman of the Chinese Archaeological Society, said that archaeologists must follow the spirit of "big country craftsmen" and carry out the weaving of ancient textiles through the study of archaeological excavation of textile technology, technology and ancient Chinese costume culture. The experiment reproduces the crafts and techniques of ancient textiles and contributes to the promotion of the traditional culture of the Chinese nation.
