Letterpress developed UHF IC tags

Toppan Printing announced the successful development of a variety of new UHF band IC tags that can be attached to metal and resin products respectively. Sample shipments began in October 2006. The IC tags developed this time belong to the company's UHF band IC tag "TOPPAN RFID U" product line.

The UHF band IC tag has a long communication distance. Another feature is that the wavelength of the electric wave in this frequency band is similar to the size of the surrounding objects. The electric wave can bypass obstacles, and even if there are some obstacles in the communication, it can communicate. Therefore, a wide range of communications can be realized, for example, it is expected to be applied to various fields such as logistics. However, there is a problem that the UHF band IC tag is easily affected by the attached object material, and the communication distance is short and the reading accuracy is low. The IC tag developed this time solves the above problem.

The IC tag used for metal products uses an antenna design that can be attached to metal. The characteristic is that the antenna uses a special material. The external dimensions are approximately 60 x 30 x 3 mm and approximately 30 x 30 x 3 mm. When attached to metal, the reference communication distance is about 3m. To ensure durability, resin-encapsulated IC tags are used.

The IC tag for resin products uses an antenna design that can be attached to a resin, and is characterized in that the cost is kept to a minimum level by adopting the same structure as an ordinary product. The dimensions are approximately 90 x 15 x 1mm. When attached to the surface of the resin material, the reference communication distance is about 4 to 5 meters.

The company plans to display this IC tag at the "8th Automatic Identification and Comprehensive Exhibition" (Tokyo Ariake International Convention & Exhibition Center) held from September 13 to 15, 2006.
